Model Bill

No Evidence Ignored Act

The No Evidence Ignored Act is our first-in-the-nation model bill to guarantee that forensic database hits are used to their full potential statewide. The bill assigns responsibility for investigating database hits, lays out what investigative steps must be taken and who must be notified, and include reporting requirements to allow for compliance to be verified and the law's efficacy to be assessed.

The bill was written with the input of law enforcement experts, prosecutors, and victim's advocates, as well as wrongful conviction organizations, and would embed best practices across any state that enacts it. It has already been introduced in the Georgia General Assembly, and we intend to advocate for its introduction in more states over in the coming months.

If you are interested in introducing the No Evidence Ignored Act—or a variant of it—in your state, we would love to work with you. Please contact Hayden Davis. We would also be happy to provide an editable text version of the model bill upon request.
