Clare Gilbert

Board Member

Clare Gilbert is an attorney who served as Executive Director of the Georgia Innocence Project for over eight years until 2025, during an intense period of organizational restructuring and growth. Under her leadership, GIP worked closely in partnership with exonerees, increased education and advanced reforms to prevent and remedy wrongful convictions, and helped free and exonerate nine innocent men who survived a combined 250 years of wrongful incarceration in Georgia prisons. Throughout her career, including as a trial-level public defender and at a national nonprofit representing whistleblowers, Clare's work has centered around transparency, accuracy and government accountability. She now works at the Quattrone Center for the Fair Administration of Justice at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, where she supports innocence organizations and prosecutor's offices around the country in their efforts to identify, correct, and prevent wrongful convictions.
